HELLO

My name is Melissa, but you can also call me Mel. I’ve been creating art professionally for over a decade. In those years I’ve worn many hats; from Art Director - to Visual Development Artist - to Illustrator. 

I was raised in Co. Wexford, Ireland. One of my earliest childhood memories is of being given a writing assignment for homework and going off-brief by drawing pictures for each story beat in the columns. Without realising it I was already a working illustrator at age 5!

Throughout my childhood and my career to date, I have been captivated by the art of worldbuilding. I would find endless joy in watching and re-watching the VHS featurettes of my favourite films and leafing through picture books into the late hours.

After receiving both a foundation in Art & Design and a B.A. in Animation by 2014, I began to work professionally in the Animation industry. Within 16 months of beginning my career, I was given my first Art Directing gig on 52x22 animated TV Show for Hasbro.

Since then, I have worked in children’s media across the UK & Ireland for clients such as Disney, Netflix, HBO Max, BBC, Cartoon Network/Hanna Barbara, Hasbro & more. You can view my full resume on LinkedIn. 

I have also taught workshops on Design for Animation and released two how-to guides for entering the Animation industry, which have sold over two thousand copies. 

In 2024 I began splitting my time between Animation and Illustration. My first illustrated picture book Who Made The Mess? will be available in November 2024.
